Artefact’s designers (Artefact is an award-winning design team) say they envisioned a “futuristic concept camera”. I admit, I like their idea, but:
1. I wouldn’t call it so “futuristic”, as they described it. I’d call “futuristic” only a dispositive able to allow you to take photos with your bare naked eye. Now, that’s futuristic! Artefact’s concept brings along some sort of “futuristic” features, yes, but just in terms of photo-glam. Not in terms of innovation.
2. Even though they are presenting it as a “concept camera” (lens + body), it seems fairly clear to me that the patent-pending WVIL is actually intended to incorporate an iPhone. Translation: WVIL (Wireless Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens camera) is actually meant to take the connectivity and application platform capabilities of today’s smart phones and to wirelessly connect them with interchangeable full SLR-quality optics. This means it’s not much of a fair camera; it’s more of a cute little hybrid. On the other hand, when I look at the specs and see that the concept includes a full frame CMOS and the ability to shoot 1920×1080 24p (plus the lens mount, which can be adapted to Nikon F mount, Canon EF mount, Micro Four Thirds and Leica M mount), I suddenly forget all about the iPhone. ‘Cause that’s pure poetry. Or, if you prefer, that’s “So rough, baby, baby, baby/ Atat de dur, Stela, Stela, Stela…” 😀
